there are rumours that

several generations ago

for several succeeding generations

many families here in West(ern) Africa
many families here in Nigeria

had and owned horses.

sometimes entities who claim to be
custodians of oral Negroland Africa history
make the same assertions.

looking at West(ern) Africa today 2023,
looking at Nigeria today 2023,
it’s a difficult tale to believe.

but then taking a look at
West(ern) Africa today 2023,
Nigeria today 2023,
it is also a difficult tale to believe that

several generations ago
and
for several succeeding generations

many families i.e many households here in West(ern) Africa
many families i.e many households here in Nigeria

had and owned goats, chickens and other livestock
as a normal, usual component of their normal everyday existence.

the latter assertion is somewhat easier to believe
because
outside of the urban centres,
outside of the cities,
outside of the towns,

i.e in the villages
and other less urban settlements

there are still homesteads
in which
the residents have
domestic animals e.g goats, chickens, turkeys, etc
live
on their parcel of land

although it is rather self-evident that
across Western Africa
across Nigeria

the number of homesteads
the number of households
that

practice livestock farming
rear livestock

.. even at just individual family subsistence levels ..

.. even if just only for the purposes of being consumed as food by that individual family ..

has decreased greatly over the years

and

is still increasingly decreasing every day.

so, it would seem that
the disappearance of the horses
may very well like
the disappearance of the goats and chickens
be a fallout of changing times.

i think the word for horse
in my native Negroland Africa tribe language
is anyinya
pronounced ah-nyeeh-nyah.

so much for horses and earlier Africa.

somehow
horses seem to highlight
the beauty of ladies.
