a post which
i had put up sometime fairly recently
at one of your internet pages
and which
at the time
i had not duplicated here at our blog
and
it had sort of occurred to me that
there might be
newer
more current images
linked to
ONITSHA WATERWORKS
on the internet
and
i guessed maybe
there might be value
in taking a
look-see
before
posting up the stuff here
and
in the process i keyed in :
” onitsha waterworks ”
and
” what year was the onitsha water works built ”
respectively
into the Google Search function in the browser
and
it threw up some stuff that looked rather interesting
including a post by a folk dated 6 April, 2024
averring that
the current Anambra State Governor has fixed the Onitsha Water-Works
and that
the Water-Works is presently functioning.

back in the day,
in the 1960s
in the 1950s
ONITSHA had a WATER-WORKS.
it is rumoured that the area of Onitsha generally referred to as WATER-WORKS today circa 2024 A.D is named after the WATER-WORKS that used to exist and function in that area back in the day.
the WATER-WORKS supplied PIPE-BORNE WATER to all areas of ONITSHA .. according to rumours .. including
■ INLAND TOWN
■ FEGGE ( pronounced FAE-GAE .. FAY-GAE )
■ ETC
and
was a very valuable source of healthy, good water for residents of Onitsha.
until
.. for some reason ..
it stopped? functioning?
causing
residents of Onitsha
to
resort to :
(1) buying water from water-tankers ( … and other water vendors ?? )
(2) digging their own bore-holes in their own compounds to provide water in instances where they have the financial means to do so
(3) buying water-tanks to store water .. whether it is water bought from water-tankers or water sourced from their own bore-holes
according to rumours,
the scenario is inconvenient and it would be best for everyone if there is a return of a functional WATER-WORKS that can provide PIPE-BORNE WATER to ALL PARTS OF ONITSHA
some folks
agree with the reasoning
but aver that
the era of PIPE-BORNE WATER being supplied to ALL PARTS OF ONITSHA via a functional WATER-WORKS is an era gone-by
and that
it is
AN IDLE DREAM
TO HOPE THAT
THE
ONITSHA WATER-WORKS WILL
EVER FUNCTION EFFECTVELY AGAIN
AND
SUPPLY PIPE-BORNE WATER TO ALL PARTS OF ONITSHA
perhaps they are right
perhaps they are wrong
the emerging future
.. perhaps though not the immediately emerging future..

there’s a mention of concessionaires somewhere

while i admit that i don’t quite understand it all,
i guess that where a key challenge will be
will be
in
the area of
sourcing adequate funding
to
■ keep the WATER-WORKS OPERATIONS FUNCTIONAL,
■ pay salaries and all,
■ etc
and
ACTUALLY CHANNEL SUCH FUNDS INTO THE WATER-WORKS
because
if
ANOTHER DIFFERENT LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION
takes over
and
doesn’t believe in keeping the Water-Works operational
or
decides to divert the funds to other areas,
then
the WATER-WORKS won’t get the funds it needs to remain functional
and ultimately,
eventually,
it’s PIPE-BORNE WATER PROVIDING FUNCTION
will grind to a halt.
