perhaps i should tell you

right away

straight away

right upfront right now

that

i really
don’t know the current prevailing state of things
regarding
this practice
as at today MARCH 2025

and

perhaps currently available technology
like the Internet

.. and Google Search in particular ..

may be able to help us
if
we want to get an update on this issue

however

sometimes

some things don’t seem to change here in Nigeria

and

sometimes it seems
to be
an ever perennial re-cycling
of old issues

all the time

whether it is
for example

THE LACK
OF
AFFORDABLE CONSISTENT REGULAR RELIABLE
ELECTRICITY
365/366 DAYS A YEAR
52 WEEKS A YEAR
12 MONTHS A YEAR
YEAR IN YEAR OUT
EVERY YEAR

THE FLOODING OF PARTS OF NIGERIA
DURING
THE RAINY SEASON
AND
THE SPILLING OVER OF WATER
FROM THE RIVERS
e.g the River Niger
LEADING TO
A FLOODING OF
THE LANDS NEAR THE RIVERS
AND
THE HAPPENSTANCE OF
INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS
OCCASIONED BY
THE FLOODING
LINKED TO THE RIVERS

THE DISPLAYS
OF
DANGEROUS
AND
SOMETIMES VIOLENT
ETHNIC
TRIBAL
XENOPHOBIC
SLANTS
TO AND IN
THE POLITICAL PROCESS

so i guess
perhaps

things are still the same
in regards to this issue

and that

we really should do get an update
as to
the exact current state of things
as at date today MARCH 2025.

however,
the circumstance that
we should get some indicator
as to what it is today

does not change the reality of back in the day

and

that reality was that

for a period of time

perhaps
1974? to 1980?
1980? to 1990 ?

and

perhaps
earlier or later

if

a little child ( male or female )
of
about

9 years old
10 years old
11 years old
and
thereabouts

from

THE SOUTH EAST STATES

and also

THE SOUTH WEST STATES

wanted to go to Secondary School
in furtherance of his/her education

having completed the Primary School Years

and

such a little kid wanted to attend a

NIGERIA FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL

i.e

a

NIGERIA FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLEGE

that little kid would need to score very high marks

AT LEAST AN AVERAGE OF 70%
( .. and sometimes HIGHER )

to be admitted into

THE SAME CLASS

WITH SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER STATE
IN THE SAME COUNTRY NIGERIA

WHO NEED ONLY SCORE 40% or 50%
TO GET ADMITTED INTO THAT SAME SCHOOL

Cherokee D Ass aezeegboh ohbee nm ( ezigbo obim ),
i guess at this juncture

it may be helpful
for us to mention

for the purposes of folks who are not very familiar with Nigeria

that

NIGERIA CAN GENERALLY BE DIVIDED
INTO :

(1) NORTHERN NIGERIA
and
SOUTHERN NIGERIA

(2) NORTHERN NIGERIA STATES
and
SOUTHERN NIGERIA STATES

(3) NORTH EAST STATES,
NORTH CENTRAL STATES,
NORTH WEST STATES

and

SOUTH EAST STATES,
SOUTH SOUTH STATES,
SOUTH WEST STATES

and that

the little kids from all of these states

DID NOT HAVE THE SAME CUT-OFF MARKS FOR ADMISSION
INTO NIGERIA FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SHOOLS
in the
1974?A.D to 1980?A.D PERIOD
1980?A.D to 1990?A.D PERIOD

with the resultant reality

being that

in the
1974?A.D to 1980?A.D PERIOD
1980?A.D to 1990?A.D PERIOD

A LITTLE CHILD FROM ONE STATE COULD SCORE 50%
AND
GET ADMITTED

BUT

A CHILD FROM SAY OGUN STATE IN YORUBALAND SOUTH WEST NIGERIA

AND

A CHILD FROM SAY ANAMBRA STATE IN IGBOLAND SOUTH EAST NIGERIA

WHO SCORED THE SAME 50%

COULD NOT
AND
WOULD NOT

GET ADMITTED INTO THE SAME SCHOOL

AND NEEDED TO SCORE HIGHER
.. AT LEAST 70% OR MORE

TO GET ADMITTED INTO THE SAME SCHOOL

we probably need to

take a look
at
HISTORY HERE

take a look
at
HOW DIFFERENT PARTS OF NIGERIA
RESPONDED TO
THE EDUCATION INTRODUCED TO NIGERIA BY THE BRITISH

take a look
at
THE ACTUAL YEARS IN HISTORY
IN WHICH
SECONDARY SCHOOLS WERE BUILT IN
THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF NIGERIA

and
then see

how
and/or
if

this realities had any linkage

to the emergence of the terminologies

EDUCATIONALLY ADVANTAGED STATES

EDUCATIONALLY DIS-ADVANTAGED STATES

Cherokee D Ass nnkeh nm,
in this regards
perhaps it may be of some relevance
if
we take a look at

(1) THE RESPONSE OF NORTHERN NIGERIA
TO
THE EDUCATION INTRODUCED INTO NIGERIA
BY THE BRITISH

(2) THE RESPONSE OF SOUTH WESTERN NIGERIA
TO
THE EDUCATION INTRODUCED INTO NIGERIA
BY THE BRITISH

(3) THE RESPONSE OF SOUTH SOUTH NIGERIA
TO
THE EDUCATION INTRODUCED INTO NIGERIA
BY THE BRITISH

(4) THE RESPONSE OF SOUTH EASTERN NIGERIA
TO
THE EDUCATION INTRODUCED INTO NIGERIA
BY THE BRITISH
