this subject matter may take quite some time if we really want to get down on it.

if we are going to be
looking at the pros and cons

of the argument(s)
of every side of the argument(s)

we are probably going to spend quite some time on this one.

i guess it’s probably best
for our own purposes
to
cut through all the bull
and
get down to the nitty-gritty.

for a start,
Victoria Cakes ormahleechar nm,

THERE ARE REALITIES OF LIFE

for example
the rain falls

snow falls

the sun shines

these are basic realities.

a folk may decide to discountenance these realities or otherwise negate or not recognise their existence

and is probably well within the scope of the perimeters of her/his own personal prerogatives

to do so
if she or he so wishes.

however,
such negation of the existence of these realities
and/or
such refusal to recognise the existence of these realities

does NOT
remove the reality of their existence.

the aforegoing leads us directly to another perception namely that

REALITIES VARY
AND
REALITIES MAY NOT BE THE SAME
OR
HAVE THE SAME IMPORT / IMPACT
FOR ONE FOLK AND ANOTHER FOLK

however,
perhaps we shouldn’t jump the gun here.

going back to the perception that
THERE ARE REALITIES OF LIFE

with respect to
the rain falls

a farmer here in Nigeria
irrespective of whether
she/he is a peasant farmer
or
a large scale farmer

irrespective of whether
she/he is into subsistence farming
or
large scale mechanized farming

necessarily needs the rain
for a good crop yield.

it would probably be most unwise
or
probably even outright silly and stupid
for a farmer

to discountenance or refuse to recognize the importance of rain for a good crop yield.

if she/he has the resources and the insight
he/she may make alternative arrangement for adequate watering of the planted seeds / crop but this is in itself a recognition of the need/importance for water/watering for the seeds/crop which nature provides naturally via the rains.

as a matter of fact,
a farmer who recognises full well the importance of rain/water/watering for the crops but who in a season of adversity from/by nature e.g during a season of drought is unable to provide adequate effective alternative water/watering for the planted seeds/crop may suffer some loss or reduced yield due to this incapability of hers/his despite her/his full awareness of the importance of rain/water/watering for the farming venture.

this leads us to another perception
namely that

IF ONE RECOGNISES THE EXISTENCE OF A REALITY / SOME REALITIES AND IS UNABLE TO MAKE ADEQUATE PROVISION TO MITIGATE OR NEUTRALISE THE POSSIBLE POTENTIAL NEGATIVE EFFECT OF THE ADVERSE SIDE OF THOSE REALITIES ON HER/HIM THAT FOLK DESPITE HER/HIS AWARENESS OF THOSE POSSIBLE ADVERSITIES MAY STILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THOSE ADVERSITIES IF THEY SWING INTO PLAY AND HE/SHE IS UNABLE TO PUT INTO PLACE (A) MECHANISM(S) FOR THEIR EFFECTIVE MITIGATION AND/OR NEUTRALISATION

in any case,
as we earlier agreed
let’s not jump the gun at this stage.

so let us look at
the reality that snow falls.

snow doesn’t fall everywhere in the world.
however,
it does fall in
the USA, North America
part of the Americas
and
also in Europe.

as far as i can tell
as a Negroland African
in the part of Negroland Africa
where snow does not fall

Winter and Snow
are both
horrible and horrid

and the horrendous tales
of unwary Negroland Africans
who have lost
limbs and lives to
frost bite and severe cold of
Winter and Snow
in USA and Europe
are no recommendation
for lack of adequate warming
and/or lack of adequate heating
regarding snow and winter
in USA and Europe.

with regards to
the sun shines

at a guess
whole loads of stuff
can be said
about
the sun
and
the shining of the sun

for example :

(a) it can be said that without the sun all life and all life forms on the planet earth would die out

(b) it can be said that the sun is a part of the system of the universe and the system of planets and galaxies and that some other planets besides the planet earth in this system include .. among others? ..Venus, Saturn, Uranus, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Pluto.

(c) it can be said that while the sun provides illumination during the daylight hours it is extremely dangerous and completely foolish to gaze directly at the sun with one’s eyes as folks who have done this have gone blind .. and therefore in effect looking directly at the sun causes blindness.

(d) for Negroland Africa and parts of the world with high amounts of sunshine ( i.e the tropics i.e the tropical regions of the world generally ) and in which the generation and supply of consistent, regular, reliable, affordable electricity is a huge challenge it is probably of value to look beyond generating electricity via Hydro-Electric Dams or Nuclear Power Reactors or Thermal Plants and to look directly at the possibility of harnessing energy directly from the sun

and to note that in fact some countries in the temperate regions i.e “not-very-much-high-sunshine-comparatively” regions of the world e.g Germany have made huge strides in providing electricity in their cities from solar energy ( i.e in providing electricity in their cities from/with the sun as the primary initiating source of energy ) leading some folks to wonder that if Germany in Europe has for so long made notable strides in generating electricity from solar energy ( sun energy ) what exactly have/has Bourkina Faso, Nigeria and Mali, etc in the sunshine belt of Africa been doing and are doing .. intellectually

.. brain-wise

.. and practically .. really, regarding generating electricity from the sunshine which they have abundantly ?

for our purposes perhaps we should look at a scenario that showcases the benefits of making hay while the sun shines i.e of getting things done quickly and properly while there is still ample time.

in this regards
an example that comes to mind
.. even if it is not the most appropriate example that can be given here ..
is the
6 hour road journey
from Onitsha in Igboland Nigeria
to Lagos in Yorubaland Nigeria
and
vice-versa.

if and when
the roads are in good shape
this is usually a smooth sailing journey
and
a folk who departs Onitsha at 07:00 am
should be in Lagos by 01:00 pm
and
vice-versa

all things been equal.

sometimes in life all things are not equal.

and a wayfarer may encounter
for example
vehicle breakdown.

when such a thing happens
it is usually possible to get
some mechanics
from somewhere along the route
that can fix the issue(s).

if such a vehicular breakdown occurs
at 11:00 am or 12:00 noon
in a journey that started at 07:00 am
and
it takes 2 hours to get it sorted out
the wayfarer
at the delayed time of 01:00 pm or 02:00 pm still has enough daylight visibility to complete the remaining 1 hour of the journey without undue worries about darkness falling.

contrast this
with a wayfarer who departs at 12:00 noon
and
at 05:00 pm suffers a vehicular breakdown which requires 2 hours to get sorted out and at 07:00 pm begins to attempt to complete the remaining 1 hour of the journey in the already falling darkness.

i guess the point is self-evident

and

i guess
folks who may have some information and knowledge of the positive and negative sides of Nigeria
historically
and
currently
may have noted that the example
does NOT factor into it

some observations that have been made in the Nigeria area
e.g
more recently ..
(i) attacks by Fulani tribe herdsmen against travellers on Nigeria roads
(ii) attacks by Kidnappers against travellers on Nigeria roads

and
more historically ..
(iii) attacks by Highway Robbers .. Highway Armed Robbers .. against travellers on Nigeria roads.

the interested reader can Google these topics and see what turns up.

however,
the INSECURITY OF ROAD TRAVEL
IN NIGERIA in the period circa 2015? to today 2025? ( ref : Fulani tribe Herdsmen, Kidnappers, Highway Robbers, etc ) and in some periods earlier? ( ref : Highway Robbers ) is not the focus of this post
and
it will suffice for us to
note in passing that
the security of the lives of it’s citizens and their properties is critical to the economic well-being and social well-being of any country.

moving forwards,
Victoria omalicham, perhaps
going forwards into the future
we should

for our own purposes

identify

PERECPTION 1 ABOVE namely that THERE ARE REALITIES OF LIFE

PERCEPTION 2 ABOVE namely that REALITIES VARY
AND
REALITIES MAY NOT BE THE SAME
OR
HAVE THE SAME IMPORT / IMPACT
FOR ONE FOLK AND ANOTHER FOLK

PERCEPTION 3 ABOVE namely that IF ONE RECOGNISES THE EXISTENCE OF A REALITY / SOME REALITIES AND IS UNABLE TO MAKE ADEQUATE PROVISION TO MITIGATE OR NEUTRALISE THE POSSIBLE POTENTIAL NEGATIVE EFFECT OF THE ADVERSE SIDE OF THOSE REALITIES ON HER/HIM THAT FOLK DESPITE HER/HIS AWARENESS OF THOSE POSSIBLE ADVERSITIES MAY STILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THOSE ADVERSITIES IF THEY SWING INTO PLAY AND HE/SHE IS UNABLE TO PUT INTO PLACE (A) MECHANISM(S) FOR THEIR EFFECTIVE MITIGATION AND/OR NEUTRALISATION

as being integral component(s) of

what for own purposes

we shall

henceforth
i.e
from the instance of this post onwards into the emerging future

refer to as
