the so called “current in-thing”s among humanity
is that
they
just sort of
stay current for a while
and then
fade away
and
another thing
becomes the in-thing
and then
lasts for a while
and then
fades away
and is
replaced by something else
and t
he cycle continues
intermittently.
sometimes
something that
was the fad
for a while
seems to fade away
and
not come back again
and
sometimes
something that
was the fad
for a while
seems to fade away
and
after the passage of some time
it makes a resurgence,
captures the popular imagination
and
repeats as
.. a “hip thing”
.. an “in thing”
.. the “with it” fad among the
current trend-setters and pace-setters
and
the above observation
seems to apply
across all humanity
and
across all spheres
e.g
dress styles,
dance styles,
etc.
i mean
… just the other recently
i ran into a video
at
Gracie Bon’s verified account
at
Instagram
in which
she was dancing a dance
that
looks very much like
THE BUMP DANCE
which was
a very popular dance
around the world
way back in the day
in the 1970s.
i had
taken a look at the video
and
surfed on by
browsed on by
with a view to
returning to the video
at a more opportune time
and
making a comment there
to the effect
that
those dance steps there
reminded me very vividly
of
a dance style
a dance step
that
here in Nigeria
a generation of folks
… including myself …
used to dance
with
much joy
and
much happiness
back in the day
circa 1974 A.D ?
i.e
( 2025 – 1974 = ) 51 years ago
as at date June 2025
circa 1975 A.D ?
i.e
( 2025 – 1975 = ) 50 years ago
as at date June 2025

that was called THE BUMP.
back in the day then
my generation of young folks
used to
describe that dance / dance step
as
“Groovy”
i.e
as being
“Groovy”
and
if a person
liked the way
a particular folk
was dancing that dance
the person would say something like :
“i dig that guy’s dance moves .. groovy, man .. real groovy”
that was back in the day.
in the 1970s.
at a guess,
over 40 years ago .
.. around about
48 years to 51 years ago and thereabouts.
so you can imagine my surprise
to see
the young and beautiful Gracie Bon
dancing in 2025 A.D
a dance step
that my generation of young folks
48? years to 51? years ago and thereabouts
used to
“Boogie Down” to
with
much gusto.
an internet user who
has some idea
of
Gracie Bon’s pages
at
Instagram
will know that
despite
Gracie Bon’s multi-faceted career profile
as
a singer and musician ( – ref : Culotte, AMG, etc )
a model
an adult movie actress
i.e
a ponographic movie actress
a philanthropist and humanitarian who gives support and aid to under-privileged children / children of the poverty level socio-economic order of society
etc ?
Gracie Bon’s pages at Instagram
are by and large
pretty tame
and
maintain an elegant classy style
which panache and pleasant style
shows through
even in the videos in which
she presents advocacy
for bigger bodied females.
so i guess
it is possible to understand
my uncertainty
as to whether
for example
Gracie Bon had decided to
temporarily deactivate the page
or
permanently delete the page
.. for reasons best known to her ..
or
perhaps she had inadvertently? flouted
a major community guideline
at Instagram
leading
.. in every sense of good justice ..
to Instagram taking down
the verified account Instagram Page
or
perhaps
Instagram had
unilaterally
arbritrarily
hacked down that verified account Instagram Page
despite the reality that Gracie Bon had not flouted any community guidelines.
perhaps,
the emerging future
will provide
some insight
as to
what it is.
