IT WOULD SEEM THAT TO PLAY FOR A FOOTBALL TEAM located outside of one’s own country OPPORTUNITY AND ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITY ARE IMPORTANT .. going by observations — historical and current – pertaining to NIGERIA
COMMENT 1

persons who are old enough in Nigeria may remember names like

CHRISTIAN CHUKWU

EMMANUEL OKALA

ALOYSIUS ATUEGWU

THE ATUEGWU BROTHERS

DOMBRAYE

HARUNA ILERIKA

MUDASHIRU LAWAL

SAM OJEBODE

amongst other names

of

great,
superb,
highly talented,
outstanding

footballers

that played FOOTBALL IN NIGERIA
in the circa 1970 A.D to 1980 A.D period
and thereabouts.

these folks were superb footballers
and
at a guess

if
the OPPORTUNITY
had been available to them
and/or
the
ACCESS TO THE OPPORTUNITY
had been available to them

to play their football
for example
in

the
ENGLAND / ENGLISH F.A PREMIER LEAGUE
or
the
ITALY / ITALIA SERIE A

it is a fair guess that
they would have performed creditably.

this guess is
based
on the observation
that

younger generations of footballers
i.e
subsequent generations of footballers

who were / are generally perceived
by
the general Nigeria public

to have about
the same levels of
skill, talent and ability
as this older generation of footballers

( .. or
depending the individual’s perception
less level of skill, talent and ability
or
more level of skill, talent and ability .. )

whose trajectory in life
provided them
the OPPORTUNITY
and
the ACCESS TO THE OPPORTUNITY

to move from NIGERIA here
where they have / had been playing football
to
Good Club-Sides
in
EUROPE, etc

performed creditably
in these clubs.

examples,
( .. to name a few among
these subsequent generations of players
who had the opportunity to play football outside Nigeria .. )
include

Jay Jay Okocha

Kanu Nwankwo

Taribo West

Samson Siasia

Finidi George

Justice Christopher

Obafemi Martins

etc, etc, etc
