the other day recently there was news in virtually all the social media in Nigeria and in virtually all the main-stream media outlets as well that the motor convoy of a State Governor in Nigeria had been attacked by gun men and that this had happened
in broad daylight
in day time
IN i.e WITHIN THE GOVERNOR’S OWN STATE
and
➡️ while the Governor was on official duty
➡️ while the Governor was on publicly announced official duty.
make no mistake about it.
State Governors in Nigeria belong to the elite class of Nigeria society.
State Governors in Nigeria belong to the financial / economic elite of and in Nigeria.
State Governors in Nigeria belong to the social elite in and of Nigeria
and
while State Governors benefit from the reverence, respect and deference
which is usually accorded to persons in the socio-economic elite category in Nigeria, they,
far beyond and above such general courtesies,
unlike most other Nigeria residents
… including those in the socio-economic elite group …
also have
a very strong protective network around them
made up of ace Security Personnel from the various security agencies in Nigeria including, for example, the Nigeria Police, etc, etc.
so it is a rather un-common event here in Nigeria to hear that a Governor
…. whether still serving or out of office ….
has been attacked by anyone / anybody be they bandits, robbers, hoodlums or terrorists.
i guess that gives any reader outside of Nigeria some idea of the kind of shock that the news of an attack against a State Governor moving
in broad daylight
in his own state
with a full convoy of security detail
including Army and Police Officers
sent across the whole of Nigeria.
the rumours and the published detail in the media is that
this State Governor was attacked by Boko Haram
and that

clearly if priviledged folks like State Governors ( and their convoys? / motor-cades ) are being attacked in Nigeria
