( CONTINUED FROM [1] )

the truth though is that
the white european Christian missionaries
are/were not the only white folks that
came to Onitsha and to
the River Niger Area / the Niger Area / the Nigeria Area

and/or Black Africa.

other white folks came too
e.g

► slave traders,
► adventurers and
► business?-persons, etc

and the rumours seem to suggest that these other white folks i.e
the
► slave traders,
► adventurers and
► business?-persons, etc
actually came ahead
.. in many instances far ahead ..
.. in many instances far ahead in terms of years i.e in terms of when they actually got here ..
of the

white european Christian missionaries
i.e they got here before the missionaries started coming here.

and
according to rumours,

they were in very many instances
not interested in doing any good to and/or in the place

unlike
the missionaries who

► evangalized .. taught the people about Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit and God
► built schools
► educated people

according to rumours,
these other white folks were just here to do their stuff
and in several instances
they maimed, seriously injured and/ or killed dead any black Africans who tried to stand in their way.

according to rumours,
these other white folks came with diverse purposes and objectives,
for example,

[1] ●► some came to trade.
so, if for example they were in :
(a) the soap business :
they brought in soap from Europe
and destroyed
the entire native soap making industry existent before their arrival

or
(b) the cloth/fabric business :
they brought in cloth from Europe
and destroyed
the entire native cloth making industry existing before their arrival. ►►►

( Rihanna, if you can get a copy of
Basil Davidson’s “A History of Africa”?

or
of any other such books, they may help in throwing light on this era.)

this is a screen-shot of the wikipedia page showing a list of SOME of Basil Davidson’s books

►►►rumours of these happenstances in the Nigeria Area / Niger Area  i.e in Nigeria seem to point at
the Portuguese
and
the Dutch/the Netherlands/Holland
in particular in this regards

although
rumours rumour that it was the general pattern of the European traders to
● destroy all native/local equivalents of their products,
● destroy all the native/local production chains/production systems that produced these products,
● re-place entirely all the native/ local equivalents with their own European products
● dictate, determine and control the prices
● dominate and control the sales and distribution of the items
and also, of course,
● kill dead any black Africa native[s] that tried to challenge their dominance

you know, Rihanna, a lot of folks who pontificate on and about
Nigeria and Nigeria’s historical relationship with/to Europe
seem to link Nigeria ONLY with Britain / the United Kingdom.

all such pontification[s] is/are inherently limited in scope
as it/they concern[s] only
the period when the British / United Kingdom solely dominated
the Nigeria Area / the Niger Area / the River Niger Area
and
do/does not take into cognizance the earlier periods before this time
when for example
the Portuguese and the Dutch held sway in the Nigeria Area.

the rumours suggest that the Portuguese got here before the British

and
the rumours suggest that the Dutch also got here before the British.
( you remember the Dutch also got to the Republic of South Africa ? )

the rumours actually say
that the Portuguese and Dutch were mighty sea-powers.
however, at some points in history,
the European countries got into sea battles with one another
and in the process the mighty sea armada of Portugal, for example,
was destroyed.

there is a mention of names like the British Sir Francis Drake
in some of these rumours
which suggest that
the British sea-going folks destroyed and overcame the sea armada of
other nations in Europe
as a result of which thereafter Britain essentially ruled the waves

which according to rumours is part of why
Britain could do a lot of stuff back then
like for example
abolish slave trading internationally
and
actually stop
United States of America ships carrying slave cargo out of Africa at sea
and release the slaves.

[2] ●► some came not to trade in any articles or commodities
but solely to engage in
the acquiring of negro human-beings for sale
to Europeans in Africa and in Europe.

these were
● the kidnappers of human-beings
● the buyers of human-beings and
● the sellers of human-beings
by and large generally referred to as
the slave-traders and/or
the traders in slave cargo.

rumours mention names like the Lander Brothers when this group is being rumoured about.

rumours also mention the Scottish Dr. Mungo Park when this group is being rumoured about.

and some rumours also rumour that the global conglomerate
Unilever Plc
once known as Lever Brothers Plc
actually has as part of it’s origins the happenstance that
the founder of the business group
was actually
a slave-trader as well

and in fact operated
vicious slave holdings in the Belgian Congo and in the Nigeria Area

although he also traded in other merchandise? other than live negro human-beings.

so, basically,
the period of the Onitsha history and Igbo-land / Ibo-land history that
this story of the translated English-to-Igbo/Ibo bible happened in
was the period
AFTER
Britian’s abolition of the slave trade
and wherein by and large
aryan / european / caucasian engagement in slave trading in
the Nigeria Area / Niger Area / the River Niger Area
had considerably reduced
AND
there was a stronger influence of the Christian Missionaries of
the various Church Denominations ( e.g Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, etc )
in the Nigeria Area / Niger Area / River Niger Area
