by way of general gist,
Victoria Cakes nnkeh nm ( nkeh nm ) ( nkem ),

there’s a rumour that
Nigeria is going to remove the Petroleum Subsidy
by February 2022 or thereabouts.

for a lot of folks with a linkage to Nigeria,
the consistently? recurring? issue of removing the Petroleum Subsidy
is all very confusing.

back in the day,
there was a very tough gentleman by the name
General Sanni Abacha. ( Nigeria Army ).
this was circa 1993 i.e (2021 – 1993 =) 28 years ago.
he was
the Ruler of Nigeria at the time
i.e
he was
the Military Head of State
and
the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces Ruling Council ( AFRC )
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the time.

if my memory serves correctly,
the rumours at the time were that
this gentleman i.e his administration removed the Petroleum Subsidy.

that was circa 1993 / 1994 and thereabouts.

since then there have been rumours of subsequent administrations removing the Petroleum Subsidy.

sometimes the rumours say it is partial removal.

sometimes, the rumours say it is full removal.

it’s all very confusing to the ordinary folks.

one time,
on 01 January, 2012
i.e (2012 – 1993 =) 9 years after rumours had it that
the General Sanni Abacha administration had removed
the Petroleum Subsidy,
there were rumours of an announcement of
an increase in
the Pump Price of Petroleum ( i.e Gasoline in USA terminology ).

at this time,
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was
the Ruler of Nigeria i.e
the Civilian Democracy President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

if my memory serves correctly,
there were rumours about that time too of
a removal of the Petroleum ( ???? USA = Gasoline ) Subsidy
by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

after that time too,
there have been rumours now and again, of subsequent administrations removing the Petroleum ( i.e Gasoline ) Subsidy.

now again in the ending portions of 2021
i.e
28 years after ( 2021 – 1993? ) the General Sanni Abacha administration is rumoured to have removed the Petroleum ( Gasoline ) Subsidy,

the rumours are saying that Nigeria is intending to
remove the Petroleum ( Gasoline ) Subsidy by February 2022.

Victoria Cakes nnmah nm ( nma m ) ( nmam ), it’s all very confusing to the ordinary folks.

the rumours get more confusing when the rumourers throw in a mention of Petroleum Refineries.

it’s like Oil was first discovered in Nigeria in 1958
in the then Eastern Region of Nigeria at a place called Oloibiri
in the Lower ( River Niger ) Delta Area of the Eastern Region.

at that time in 1958
Nigeria had not yet become Self-Ruling i.e Self-Governing
and
was ruled by it’s owner? i.e it’s Colonial Master Britain
i.e the United Kingdom.

the discovery is rumoured to have been made by
Shell BP …. or is that Shell Petroleum ?

anyway,
the point is that
the rumour is that
at that time Nigeria had no Petroleum Refineries of it’s own
and
any Oil sourced / produced / extracted / drilled / derived in Nigeria was
exported abroad
to be refined into various Petroleum Products
e.g
? Petrol / Gasoline for cars,
? Kerosene,
? Lubricants e.g motor vehicle engine oil,
? etc.

over time
Nigeria built a Petroleum Refinery in Nigeria

and
thus began to refine Petroleum Products
in Nigeria

?? for domestic consumption
?? for local consumption
?? for use by entities within the Nigeria territory.

the rumours say
Nigeria built a total of 4 Petroleum Refineries over the years.

now this is another area where the rumours get very confusing as
the rumours rumour that
after some time Nigeria

? stopped taking care of the Petroleum Refineries
? stopped looking after the Petroleum Refineries properly
? stopped maintaining the Refineries properly

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/411594-nigerias-three-refineries-processed-zero-crude-but-cost-nation-n10-billion-in-june.html

and so
the Nigeria Refineries got into a very run down state
and
could not be used to refine Petroleum Products in Nigeria anymore

https://africacheck.org/fact-checks/factsheets/factsheet-what-you-need-know-about-nigerias-ailing-refineries-and-their

and so

Nigeria began to export Oil drilled / extracted in Nigeria abroad for refining
in/at /by Petroleum Refineries abroad.
