i had just picked up the phone
specifically for the purpose of checking if the battery level reading
had gone so low as for the phone to require charging when

one of the notifications on the phone caught my attention.

it was a notification from the Opera News Nigeria app.

and it bore worrisome information.

it sort of screamed? :

US varsity reacts as Nigerian born professor criticises Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth ??
Nigerian born Professor ??
US varsity ??

those words were worrisome enough
… at least to me anyway …
to make me hold up a bit
and then click on the notification to see what this is/was about.

below are screen-shots reflecting the content of that post
at Opera News Nigeria.

i read through the post with an increasing sense of alarm
as i progressed through the publication.

i have seen instances in which
persons of my own tribe, viz : the Igbo tribe ( Ibo tribe )
have encountered unfavourable scenarios ( scenaria )
for utterances they made

.. and which they believed were right regarding its’ contents ..

either in writing or speech or both.

in this regards
i assume the liberty to reference by way of example

.. with all due respect ..
– – and apologies where due and/or appropriate – –
to all sensitivities concerned

either directly or collaterally

at the period 1987? that representatives of the highly sought after
NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE
were visiting NIGERIA as part of the process of determining

which AFRICAN
WOULD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE WHOLE WORLD

be awarded the
NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE.

persons who are familiar with these happenstances
.. and other similar happenstances ..

may understand
the feeling of foreboding? that came to rest upon me
as i read through the piece

and my increasing misgivings?
as i read through the piece.

after reading the post, i typed in a response
under the pseudonym +234-809600****.

below are screen-shots of that response.

not being sure if a Professor located in the USA would be familiar with
the Nigeria Opera News app or currently use it

i then headed over to the Professor‘s page at Twitter.

there,
while being very conscious that
the greater majority of Twitter Users worldwide are
probably not familiar with
the writing and reading of the Igbo/Ibo language,

i, all the same, typed in some comments in the ibo/igbo language
the objective being for her
.. if she ever reads the tweets ..
to perceive that
this tweeter is familiar with the igbo/ibo language
and
thus perhaps also with igbo/ibo history and culture

and
is not taking a divergent view from hers because
the tweeter is

antiigbo / antiibo or antiblack
but
rather because
the tweeter views the issues from a differing perspective.

below are screen-shots of the tweets.

for the purposes of this post at this blog,
i have attempted a translation
of each tweet into the english language,

an exercise which
the
constraints of
space and format / mode of presentation
would have,
in my view,
rendered
cumbersome, ardous and tiresome
if done at
Twitter.

PLEASE NOTE : the book mentioned in the tweet above is banned in Nigeria. it was banned when it was published in 1970?. according to rumours, it is still banned till date September 2022. it is not clear from the rumours if the ban on the book includes banning a mention of the book on a non-Nigerian social media app ( Twitter ) headquartered in the U.S.A in a tweet via the app to a person resident in U.S.A. immediately it becomes clear to us that the ban extends to banning a mention of the book on a non-Nigerian social media app ( Twitter ) headquartered in the U.S.A in a tweet via the app to a person resident in U.S.A, the portion of the above screen-shot mentioning the book will be blotted out.

in the process of typing in the tweets
the day began to go it’s own way
and
matters of the day arose that required
time, attention and concentration

causing me not to follow the discourse as closely
as i would have wished to.

by the time i eventually returned to the phone
hours later,
as my memory serves,
the first thing i saw this time

was yet another notification from Opera News Nigeria.

this time,
the notification bore the legend :

US varsity reacts to Nigerian born professor’s Comment
Over
Queen Elizabeth Death

below are screen-shots of the post.

the link is :

this post carried essentially the same content as the other post
differentiated in that
it had a screen-shot of the tweet by the University.

i typed in a response saying that
the University is not wrong to send out a tweet.

below are screen-shots of that response
in which i used the pseudonym +234-809600****.

after typing in that response
i browsed over to Professor Uju Anya‘s Twitter Page
where

using a screen-shot
made out from the image of the Carnegie Mellon University tweet
in the post at Opera News

i typed in 2 more tweets in
the igbo / ibo language to Professor Uju Anya.

below are screen-shots of the tweets.

a translation
from the ibo / igbo language
into the english language
is done beneath each tweet.

having done that
i let the matter rest
and turned my attention to other things.

hours passed.

after some hours i picked up the phone with a view to
making a call

and noticed what seemed to be
a barrage of Opera News notifications regarding the
Professor‘s tweets.

one of notifications was titled :

Nigerian Lesbian Professor Caused Worldwide Outrage Over Comment On Queen Elizabeth

the link to the corresponding post is :

Nigerian Lesbian Professor Caused Worldwide Outrage Over Comment On Queen Elizabeth
http://opr.news/31368fa4220909en_ng?link=1&client=news

i read through the post and left a comment there.

i went back to the Opera News Nigeria app
a minute ago just now
with a view to making some screen-shots
of the post and my response to it.

the post is no longer there.
that particular post is no longer there.

the screen-shot below shows what you see
if and/or when you click the link.

in any case,
what i wrote there in my comments,
perhaps in not as many words,
was that :

? Lesbianism .. just like Homo-sexualism and Bi-sexualism .. is an individual proclivity

? the issue being discussed is not the Sexual Proclivities of individuals

? the issue being discussed is the tweet by the learned Professor

one notification there
at the Opera News Nigeria App
actually accused the Professor soiling Nigeria‘s image.

the corresponding post was titled :

Who is Prof Anya, the Lady who Soiled Nigeria’s Image by Wishing Queen Elizabeth II Excruciating Death?

the link is :

Who is Prof Anya, the Lady who Soiled Nigeria’s Image by Wishing Queen Elizabeth II Excruciating Death?
http://opr.news/2ac95e57220909en_ng?link=1&client=news

below are screen-shots of that post.

below are screen-shots of my response to that post.

the truth is that those tweets
attracted the attention of huge numbers of people
around the world

e.g
? in USA, North America, the Americas Continent
? in Nigeria, Western Africa, the Africa Continent
? etc

and inspired people
from / of different walks of life
to reach out to the keyboard
of their device

.. be it a mobile phone or a desk top or a laptop or whatever ..
to type something
in regards to it

either
in support of it or against it

or partially in support of it or partially against it and/or both

and in some instances
either
in support of her because of it
or against her because of it

or
partially in support of her because of it
or
partially against her because of it

and/or both.

in the view of this writer
it would probably require a dedicated effort
to track down all these responses
and
that sort of exercise is probably better left to
a cerebral entity
e.g
the Sociology? Department of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka,
for example,
and other entities of simillar cadre.

some questions that may help
.. if asked here ..
include the following :

[1] IS

REGARDING

NOTE : the books by authors who have written about
the events of that period
narrate the events from the individual perspectives
of each individual author.
it would appear that
if the reader can read books by different authors,
the reader may get some idea of what happened.
