at a guess,
there’s probably a combination of factors
whose cumulative effect(s)

create? the usual? floods
that are seen virtually every? year
in flood-prone? areas
here in Nigeria

and
also cause? the more devastating floods
seemingly seen from time to time
here in Nigeria.

Rihanna ohbee nm, ( obim ) ( obi m ),
from everyday conversations and discussions
with everyday folks
here in Nigeria

it seems that,
at least,
in the cities and/or towns
e.g
Onitsha, Asaba, Aba, etc

there is a need to have enough
drainages, drains,
gutters, gutter-ways, etc

and for such
drainages, drains,
gutters, gutter-ways, etc
to be kept and maintained in a functional and efficient state
i.e in such a state that

the drainages, drains,
gutters, gutter-ways, etc
actually flow
and flow freely.

i guess this perception is based on the observation that
when it rains,
the rain-fall / rain-water gets into
the drainages, drains,
gutters, gutter-ways, etc

and when
the drainages, drains,
gutters, gutter-ways, etc
are
clogged up with debris,
filled up with refuse,
filled up and blocked with refuse, debris and junk

there is a problem.

what it seems to be is that
when the rain-fall is not heavy
the superb sun here in Nigeria takes care of things
and dries up things nicely

however, if the rains are heavy,
since there is no real escape / outlet for the water
it floods everywhere.

that explanation may hold for the cities and/or towns
but how about the villages?
which experience floods ?
and are not known to have
either functional or extensive
drainages, drains,
gutters, gutter-ways, etc ?

could it be that in the villages
the absence? of
either functional or extensive
drainages, drains,
gutters, gutter-ways, etc
in the first instance
causes floods when and if the rains are heavy,
since there is no real escape / outlet for the water
and so it floods everywhere ??

then there’s these rumours about
one dam
somewhere in the neighbouring Cameroon country
letting out water from time to time
and
flooding virtually the entire Nigeria
whenever it does so

what it is though
is that

virtually every year

in
the South-East Geographical cum Political Zone cum Administration Zone
of Nigeria
in
the South-South Geographical cum Political Zone cum Administration Zone
of Nigeria
in
the South-West Geographical cum Political Zone cum Administration Zone
of Nigeria
in
the North-Central Geographical cum Political Zone cum Administration Zone
of Nigeria
in
the North-East Geographical cum Political Zone cum Administration Zone
of Nigeria
in
the North-West Geographical cum Political Zone cum Administration Zone
of Nigeria

some folks die due to floods
some folks are affected very negatively by floods

and there is strong value in Nigeria putting in effective measures
whether at the level of the Local Government Administrations
whether at the level of the State Governments
whether at the level of the Federal Government

to stop folks dying due to floods every year in Nigeria
to stop folks being affected very negatively by floods every year in Nigeria.

if a folk googles
causes of flood ?
causes of flood in Nigeria ?
causes of flood in “XYZ State” in Nigeria ?

some pretty informative stuff turns up
along with reasonable suggestions that can
solve the horror of floods
solve the horror of flooding

and one wonders if
any, some or all of these reasonable suggestions will be implemented ?

in any case,
Rihanna nnkeh nm ohfoo sorr-sorr,
Rihanna nkem ofu soso ,
the screen-shots below reflect some of what folks see
if and/or when folks google
causes of flood ?
causes of flood in Nigeria ?
causes of flood in “XYZ State” in Nigeria ?
